BLESSED TO EAT

Blessings come in different kinds, some just don’t get sick often, some don’t get fat….In my City, Nairobi, some are blessed to eat! They just can’t seem to stop!

You might have interacted with people who just don’t stop eating, you just shared a meal, and a moment later they’re on to the next plate presented, or a cup of tea, or sucking a lollipop (and working hard on it)

Even though this feeding habit is not recommended, these people seem to be healthier and well equipped to deal with diseases if they constantly feed on healthy foods. The ones who binge on junks most often face tragic consequences.

Research says that most calories are consumed as snacks.
If you’re affected, start by gradually replacing your snack choices to a. healthier variety.

Here’s how to navigate healthy snacking

SAMOSAS
👉A popular pastry often stuffed with meat(beef or chicken) or vegetables.
✅Switch to the vegetables option.

MAHINDI.
👉Corn.
Presented along the streets boiled or roasted.

✅You should choose boiled corn because they contain less calories compared to the roasted ones.

MABUYU
👉These are candied seeds of baobab tree flavored with sugar and sometimes chilly. Pick the chili flavor.

✅Mabuyu contains higher fiber and vitamin C.

MIHOGO
👉Cassava

Mihogo chips are cassava sliced into thin pieces and presented as deep fried, roasted, boiled or raw.
If you are a die hard, patronize the boiled and the raw!

NJUGU
👉Groundnuts.
If you’re especially focused on losing weight, replace the roasted ones(karanga) with the boiled ones.

VIAZI
👉Potatoes.
Ditch the fried Irich ‘tatoes for the boiled sweet ones.
✅They are loaded with high fibre, lots of vitamins and have no added oil.

MAYAI PASUA
👉Hard Boiled eggs.
It’s not a hashtag#mayai-pasua if it’s not cut into half, added kachumbari and served with either chilli source or vinegar.

hashtag#Kachumbari is just a mixer of thinly sliced ( insert the roaming chef’s voice) onions,tomatoes and cilantro.

✅Boiled eggs are very good sources of proteins and contain a good fats.
